Money matters

Today’s Dutch currency is the euro. Most people in the Netherlands pay with cash or (Dutch) debit cards in stores.
It will take approximately two to three weeks to set up a Dutch bank account.
To open an account and to be able to withdraw money, you need to take with you:
Identity card
Visum (only for Turkish students)
Student card of Hogeschool Rotterdam
Letter that proves that you are an official student of Hogeschool Rotterdam. The letter will be provided by the RIBA-coordinator of Hogeschool Rotterdam or by the International Office.

Credit cards are accepted in most stores but not in most supermarkets and small shops. Most accepted cards are Visa- and MasterCard and there is a wide range of ATM machines.
