RIBA Approach of University of Applied Sciences Deggendorf
Organisation and focus of the RIBA module

The RIBA (Raising International Business Awareness) module organised by University of Applied Sciences Deggendorf in the first semester of the academic year (i.e. winter semester, starting October 1 and ending February 5) is characterized by the following aspects:

o The module consists of 7 courses
o In total, 30 ECTS are offered
o The module is offered in the first semester of the academic year (for the exact dates, please check the folder School – Academic Calendar).
o The module is open to domestic and foreign students, as to allow both parties to be involved in internationalisation and to meet different cultures

RIBA approach of University of Applied Sciences Deggendorf:

o The RIBA module at University of Applied Sciences Deggendorf has a strong emphasis on the management of international relations (International Relationship Management). As Deggendorf and the neighbouring region of Bavaria is centrally located in the geographic centre of the European Union, University of Applied Sciences Deggendorf is dedicated to the importance of international relations for the economy, the industry and the people.
o The RIBA courses deal with the different aspects of international relationships, e.g.
- the economic relationships between the countries of the globalised world – theoretically and practically
- the legal relationships having been institutionalized in international business law
- the personal relationships between individuals interacting in international business and international teams
- the customer relationships stressing the importance if international sales and marketing for the survival of local economies
o German/Bavarian business procedures will be compared to those of other European member states, and (if possible) sometimes also to those used in the USA, Africa and Asia.
o As the world is far bigger than the EU the RIBA modules additionally draws the attention to the often neglected continent of Africa and tries to raise awareness for the relationship between Africa and the EU.
o As international relationships have various other aspects besides those already mentioned, the RIBA module offers a choice of various different course all related to international business.
o German courses tailored to the different levels of students conclude the RIBA module.
o In addition to the sole RIBA courses University of Applied Sciences Deggendorf offers the RIBA students the opportunities of working as a student consultant (Consult-it) and finding suitable and challenging work and internship opportunities (weekly news letter sent electronically to all students by Career SERVICES
o The aim is to prepare the student to live and work in a European and multicultural environment, free from the prejudices sometimes preventing a fruitful co-operation, being able to master the unlimited challenges of international relationships.

If you would like to participate in RIBA, you should at least have acquired some start competences (i.e. the knowledge, skills, attitudes you need BEFORE you enter the RIBA module) and you will have acquired final competences (i.e. knowledge, skills, attitudes AFTER having finished the RIBA module). Below you can find these competences in detail:

Start competences
Knowledge:
o Students should at least have acquired 120 ECTS before participating in RIBA.
o The students participating should have the English level B1- at least B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
o The students should be able to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint) and the internet (search engines and email)
o Basic knowledge of the individual business functions
o Good knowledge of micro- and macroeconomics
o Basic knowledge of marketing
o Basic knowledge of civil law
o Good knowledge of marketing

Skills:
o students are able to do research, make analyses and work on papers, assignments independently
o students are able to work in team
o students are generally able to adapt to foreign cultures
o students are able to contribute to discussions in English
o students are able to fluently read and write English
o students are willing to learn German and give the German/Bavarian culture a chance

Attitudes:
o enthusiast, willing to learn

Final competences 
Knowledge:
o The students will have an insight into the international trade theories and their impacts
o The students will be able to analyse and solve cases in international economics on their own and in teams
o The students will be familiarized with issues of different international law systems and know how to act within the framework of different legislations
o The students will be aware of the pitfalls of working in international teams and know the general principles of working in teams
o The students will be aware of facts, figures and details about the trade between Africa and the EU and the relationship between the two continents
o The students will be familiar with global marketing strategies and global marketing programmes
o The students will be able to read, write and speak German far better


Skills:
o The students will be able to work with an existing international company and to achieve real goals 
o The students’ level of English will have improved by learning by doing (by actively using English in classes, group discussions, papers, assignments, …)
o The students will be prepared to live and work in a European and multicultural environment, free from the prejudices sometimes preventing a fruitful international co-operation.
