Start competences
Knowledge:
o Students should at least have acquired 120 ECTS before participating in RIBA. Some of the courses however are a first introduction into a specific subject (such as Networking and Lobbying) but the students taking part in RIBA courses are presumed to have a theoretical commercial/business management background with at least some experience in project/team work
o The students participating should have the English level B1- at least B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
o The students should be able to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint) and the internet (search engines and email)
o Basic knowledge of EU institutions
o Basic knowledge of general law principles
o Basic knowledge of marketing
 
Skills:
o students are able to do research, make analyses and work on papers, assignments independently
o students are able to work in team
o students are able to express their opinions while at the same time being able to listen to others
o students are able to contribute to discussions in English
o students are able to fluently read and write English

Attitudes:
o enthusiast, willing to learn
o interest in recent political and European developments
o open minded
o flexible
o critical, yet not arrogant
o willing to function in a multicultural environment
o aware of the importance of an international experience

o motivated and not easily giving up
o having an own opinion, while at the same time being able to listen to others

Final competences 
Knowledge:
o The students will have an insight into the main lobbying and networking functions and institutions of the EU, as to be found in Brussels
o The students will have an insight into the political processes of lobbying and networking
o The students will be familiarized with issues of European transnational commercial practice
o The students will be aware of the EU competition rules
o The students will be able to respect and integrate existing regulation in European business relationships
o The student will understand the recent economic and political topics involving the EU
o The student will understand the main reasons and developments concerning the enlargement of the EU
o The student will understand how the EU works
o The students will be aware of the difficulties that may arise in the trading business of two or more co-operating European countries
o The students will have an insight into the logistic stream of a ‘trade”
o The students will know how about the different documents needed to finalise an international transaction: trade documents, customs documents and transport documents
o The students will understand the issues underpinning today’s best practices in e-commerce and e-business
o The students will be aware of innovative strategies in the field as well as future trends, including the advent of mobile e-commerce (or m-commerce).
o The students will understand the increasing impact of e-business solutions in e-government


Skills:
o The students will be able to work with an existing company and to achieve real goals 
o The students’ level of English will have improved by learning by doing (by actively using English in classes, group discussions, papers, assignments, …)
o The students will be prepared to live and work in a European and multicultural environment, free from the prejudices sometimes preventing a fruitful international co-operation.
