German specialties:

Given beer's popularity in Germany, it is probably not surprising that there are now well over 5,000 varieties brewed in 1,500 breweries. A good fifth of these are found in the southern region of Bavaria, the capital of which is Munich, home to the world-famous Oktoberfest beer festival. Many styles and strengths have developed over the years. Beer is drunk at different times during the day, generally with meals or alongside the most popular bar nibble, lightly salted pretzels.

To walk into a German bakery is to walk into a food lovers' paradise. Bread is taken very seriously in Germany. High street bakers flourish and varieties abound. What is even more impressive is that German breads tend to be of the healthy wholegrain type, packed with flavour and nutrients. The most popular breads include rye flour either with or without wheat.

A German sausage “Bratwurst” is made of pork and veal seasoned with a variety of spices including ginger, nutmeg and coriander or caraway. Though, it is now available precooked, Bratwurst is generally found fresh and must be well grilled or sautéed before eating.

Restaurants,  pubs and clubs

It's always possible to go and have a meal somewhere outside. Visit the pubs, clubs and restaurants downtown!

You should be aware that Deggendorf is not a big city like Munich! Still there are a lot of possibilities to have fun in Deggendorf. For nightlife lovers, Deggendorf and the surrounding areas offer a few modern clubs. Next to a few student bars and pubs in the city centre there are several comfy cafes and cocktail bars which offer affordable and good food. You can reach them all within 5 minutes on foot, if you live around the city centre or in the student dormitory. Most bars have special student nights during the week.

For those who love dancing, Saturday would be the best day for doing that! In P3, there are all world radio hits! Just enjoy yourself!
