RIBA Approach of the Hogeschool Rotterdam, The Netherlands
Organisation and focus of the RIBA IBaC Specialisation module


The RIBA (Raising International Business Awareness) module organised by the CE Department of the Hogeschool Rotterdam in both the first and second semester of the third academic year, is characterized by the following aspects:

o The name of the Module is: RIBA IBaC Specialisation
o IBaC means: International Business and Career
o The module consists of 3 Core Modules, 6 Elective courses (of which you can choose three) and an International Business project of 20 weeks
o In total, 30 ECTS are offered
o The module is offered in both the first and second semester of the third academic year.
o The module is open to domestic and foreign students, as to allow both parties to be involved in internationalisation and to meet different cultures

RIBA approach of IBaC Specilisation Hogeschool Rotterdam:

o The RIBA IBaC Specialisation module at Hogeschool Rotterdam has a strong emphasis on International Business in general. As Rotterdam is the European main port, some of the RIBA courses have a clear link with Rotterdam and its business approach.
o The basis of this Specialisation is International Marketing.                                                                                                                                               o Because International Marketing almost always involves large investments and risks, a lot of attention will also be devoted to the economic consequences of companies’ internationalisation ambition.
o One of the gauges of Specialisation is the Federation of Dutch Export. By gearing the curriculum as closely as possible to the requirements of the FENEDEX examinations board, students may qualify for the post-HBO (Higher Vocational) Export Management B diploma. If you would like to apply for the FENEDEX diploma choose electives marked Fen.

If you would like to participate in RIBA, you should at least have acquired some start competences (i.e. the knowledge, skills, attitudes you need BEFORE you enter the RIBA module) and you will have acquired final competences (i.e. knowledge, skills, attitudes AFTER having finished the RIBA module). Below you can find these competences in detail:

Skills and competences you should have required before entering the RIBA IBaC programme
Knowledge:
o Students should at least have acquired 120 ECTS before participating in RIBA.
o The students taking part in RIBA courses are presumed to have a theoretical commercial/business management background with at least some experience in project/team work
o The students participating should have the English level B1- at least B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
o The students should be able to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint) and the internet (search engines and email)
o Basic knowledge of Finance (e.g. level of Principles of Finance textbooks)
o Basic knowledge of Marketing (e.g. level of Principles of Marketing textbooks)
Skills:
o students are able to do research, make analyses and work on papers, assignments independently
o students are able to work in team
o students are able to express their opinions while at the same time being able to listen to others
o students are able to contribute to discussions in English
o students are able to fluently read and write English

Attitudes:
o enthusiast, willing to learn
o interest in recent political and International Business developments
o open minded
o flexible
o critical, yet not arrogant
o willing to function in a multicultural environment
o aware of the importance of an international experience
o interactive
o dynamic
o motivated and not easily giving up
o having an own opinion, while at the same time being able to listen to others

What will you gain from the RIBA IBaC specialisation

Knowledge and applied Skills:

A student who has taken the RIBA IBaC Specialisation module should then be able to do the following in practice:
Use International Relationship Management, in a European, International Multicultural Context, by developing International Marketing and Export Plans. Be able to meet the Needs and Wants of the International Customer and Partner,thereby achieving Profitable International Win-Win Situations,that are Logistically feasible and Legally sound, and that can be implemented Operationally.

o Easily copes with uncertain circumstances and unclear instructions
