The level of health care in Finland is high and there are public Health Centres and hospitals throughout the country. If you need acute medical attention turn to the nearest Health Centre or Hospital Emergency Unit. The Emergency Units have doctors on duty round the clock. In a dental emergency turn to the Dental Clinic of the Health Centre and make an appointment.
Emergency phone numbers in Finland
112 General emergency (Fire department, ambulance)
10022 Police
Calls to the general emergency numbers 112 and 10022 are free of charge from all phone boxes. When dialling the emergency number, you do not need an area code, not even when calling from a mobile phone.

Pharmacies

Medicines are only sold at pharmacies; some are sold without a prescription, but a doctor’s prescription is needed for stronger medication (i.e. antibiotics). Usually, one of the pharmacies in town is open late. To find out which pharmacy is open late look for the notice PÄIVYSTÄVÄ APTEEKKI (pharmacy on call) in the local newspaper.
