RIBA APPROACH OF ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT & BUSINESS
ORGANISATION AND FOCUS OF THE RIBA MODULE 


The RIBA (Raising International Business Awareness) module organised by Academy of Management & Business in the first semester of the academic year, is characterized by the following aspects:

o  The module consists of 7 courses.
o  30 ECTS are offered in total
o  The module is open to domestic and foreign students to allow both parties to be involved in internationalisation and to meet different cultures
o  The module is open to 3rd and 4th year students as the courses offered are mainly of an intermediate/advanced level.

RIBA approach of Academy:

The RIBA module “STRATEGIC CHANGES IN THE KNOWLEDGE-BASED EMERGENT MARKETS” is based on three core courses:

o   Marketing Strategy for Entering an Emerging Market,

o    Strategic Management in Knowledge Economies,

o    Virtual Organizations.

Tomorrow’s business leader enters knowledge-based business which is a new era. The core courses are concentrated on achieving the aim of the module: how do companies compete in industries where the knowledge and innovation are key to success, how do managers develop and implement strategies in such industries, what are the success factors for sustainable competitive advantage. The purpose is to discuss the advanced development strategies that take into account information and communication technology, knowledge-based infrastructure, innovation and emphases the computational intelligence methods as prerequisites for in-depth exploration into the adaptive mechanisms that enable intelligent behaviour in complex and changing environments. Also, there is the course of a new form of organization, which is the consequence of forming the information society. The course is called “Virtual Organizations” which aims to highlight the differences of management of a virtual organization and of a traditional enterprise and present the specifics of personnel management of virtual organizations. The supporting courses such as “Marketing Strategy for Entering an Emerging Market” focuses on marketing specifics in emerging markets because every company has to understand an environment of the market, evaluate market size and competitors as well as partners. Another course “Finance Tools” deals with key financial and economic actualities of Lithuanian enterprises. Because of the globalization, it is necessary to get a better understanding of cross-cultural interaction in terms of business ethics.  The course “Business Ethics” is designed especially for you. It is based on interdisciplinary approach to ethical problems in the public and private sectors. Also, we offer a very new subject “Managing Strategic Change” which introduces the management not only on the organizational level but on the individual level as well.RIBA module will start with the course called “Intercultural Communication” It is a familiarization course in order to get know better each other, polish a bit our socio-psychological skills and learn a few words of the Lithuanian language.The exam session is during the studies time. There are no classes and exams after Christmas.

The program offers not only lectures but also social visits to different companies and institutions in order to perceive country’s and economies characteristics for effective performance of business.

If you like to participate in RIBA, you should at least meet some start competences (i.e. the knowledge, skills, attitudes you need BEFORE you enter the RIBA module). AFTER having finished the RIBA module you will have acquired final competences (i.e. knowledge, skills, and attitudes). Below you can find these competences in detail:

Knowledge:


o Students taking part in RIBA courses are presumed to have a basic knowledge of accounting economics, marketing, management, European integration economics and general law principles with at least some experience in project/team work
o Students participating should have the English level B1- at least B2 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
o Students should be able to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and the internet (search engines and email)

Skills:


o Students are able to do research, make analyses and work on papers, assignments independently
o Students are able to work in team
o Students are able to express and argument their opinions while at the same time being able to listen to others
o Students are able to contribute to discussions in English
o Students are able to fluently read and write English

Final competences

Knowledge: 

o They will understand and analyze the Ethical Dilemmas.
o They learn about latest issues on Business Ethics.
o They understand the importance of practiced ethics and compliance, integrity and transparency.
o The students will be aware of the importance of the individual responsibility shared by every employee in the organization.
o They develop an understanding of how organizations relate to society.
o They will be able to understand the recent economic and financial situation in Lithuanian companies.
o They will be able to understand the main reasons and developments concerning the Lithuanian companies’ behaviour and its decisions possibilities.
o They will be able to find out the main financial tools for Lithuanian companies.
o They will understand the importance of cultural and economic difference on the results of the same processes.
o They develop a sophisticated understanding of the changing market context in which organization develop marketing activities.
o They will know modern management principles of information economy.
o They will understand the nature of strategic change.
o They will outline the main approaches to managing strategic change.
o They will be able to understand the specifics of creation and managing of virtual organizations (enterprises).
o They will be able to understand the differences managing virtual enterprises and traditional enterprises.
o They will be able to understand specifics of personnel management of virtual organizations.
o They will be able to prepare the project material for getting the EU funds, manage this kind of the project.
o They will get analytical and evaluative skills to assess trends and marketing practice in emerging market.
o They will understand how to implement and problem solve real-world, complex problems within the knowledge-based computational intelligence framework.
o They will understand how to tackle new challenges, crises, emergent knowledge and complexity using self-organizing and adaptive intelligent systems.
o By the end of the module, the students will be able to understand the nature of strategic formulation and implementation, to understand the role of innovation in strategy, to appreciate the challenges of managing strategic change.

Skills:

o They will be able to notice changes and their impact on the business and them personal.
o They will be able to use the opportunities of the environment.
o They strengthen ability to identify, reflect and respond to ethical management challenges in organizations.
o They develop analytical ability with real business-and-society problems faced by organizations.
o They improve and broaden one’s personal philosophy of the relationship between business and society.
o They improve their ability to discuss and clearly present interdisciplinary subject.
o They improve their ability to analyze using the systemic method of analyses.
o They will be able to identify the main factors and consequences of certain process.
o They could analyse the company’s environment influenced by the changing integration process.
o They strengthen their skills of working independent and are responsible for their own decisions.
o They strengthen their ability to analyse the causes of change.
o They will be able to draw up a program of strategic change appropriate to the strategic task.
o They will be able to link a strategic change with the type of change required on the organizational and personal levels.
o The students will be able to work with an existing company and to achieve real goals. 
o The students’ level of English will have improved by learning by doing.
o The students will be prepared to live and work in a European and multicultural environment, free from the prejudices sometimes preventing a fruitful international cooperation.
