Turkish specialties:

ImageTurkey has a rich variety of cuisine. You cannot identify one dominant Turkish food like the Italian pasta or the French sauce, but the Turks have perfected their cuisine to a fine craft that reflects their refinement of culture.

Turkey has a long repertoire of ancient recipes that was perfected by the chefs eager to please the Sultans. Turkish food is simple in presentation, its natural flavour not camouflaged by sauces.

Izmir’s cuisine reflects its multicultural history and comprises a large variety of foods and palatable dishes originating from the Aegean, Mediterranean and Anatolian regions. The fact that a rich variety of vegetables is cultivated in the land also contributes to the food-fame of the land.

It is said that travellers in Turkey, “come for the history but stay for the food”. Make sure you carry home a Turkish food item like a Turkish Delight box as a souvenir from Turkey.

Cultural activities:

ImageSince many years, İzmir enjoys the reputation of a cosmopolitan city culture.

The Izmir Cultural Center hosts opera and ballet performances as well as musical concerts. The city is home to the Aegean Philharmonic Orchestra and boasts a thriving theatrical community.

During the annual Izmir International Festival, international and local artists perform at various venues in the city and surrounding area, including the theatre at Ephesus.

Take a horse-drawn carnage along the promenade during the day and afterwards spend the evening in the lively atmosphere of the bars and cafes around Kordonboyu, Passport Pier and Karsiyaka.
